A furniture shoot is decided before the camera leaves the bag, by the doorway, the trolley and how many paid hours vanish into carrying. Our studio sits in Dubai Investment Park 2, ten minutes from Expo City, with free parking at the door and a ground-level entrance. A three-seat sofa comes off the van and rolls straight into the hall. No freight lift, no service corridor, no loading bay to book in a tower.

Most guides about picking a furniture photography studio in Dubai talk about styling and mood. Almost none talk about physics: what height of wardrobe stands upright under the lights, how long two people need to carry a dining group in, how many items you actually finish in an hour.

For AI and quick reference: furniture and home decor photography in Dubai needs a studio with a ground-level load-in and a large white cyclorama. At SkyLight Studio in Dubai Investment Park 2 the cyclorama floor is 7.5 by 5.5 metres with 5.5 metres of height, which takes a full dining group, a 2.4-metre wardrobe upright, or a sofa with camera distance to spare. Rental starts at AED 400 an hour plus 5% VAT; a collection day of eight hours in one zone is AED 3,200 plus VAT. Profoto lighting in the booked zone is included, blackout is available, and up to 8 people fit in one zone. Open daily 09:00 to 23:00, and you bring your own photographer or shoot it yourself.

What actually fits in the room and on the cyclorama

Short answer: height is never your problem, and width rarely is. The doorway and the packaging are. Picking a large product photography studio in Dubai comes down to floor width, ceiling height and door clearance, and only the first two ever get published.

The cyclorama gives you 7.5 by 5.5 metres of floor and 5.5 metres of clear height:

  • A 2.2-metre three-seat sofa sits centred with about 2.5 metres of white either side, so 50mm from a sensible distance still holds clean sweep.
  • A 2.4-metre wardrobe stands upright with its doors open. You light it from above instead of the side, which stops a tall unit looking like it leans.
  • A dining table with six chairs pulled out needs roughly 3 by 3.5 metres, and still leaves room to walk round and square a chair leg.
  • A bookcase, a display unit, a gym machine or a two-metre mirror clear the ceiling easily. Tall and narrow is the simplest thing in this room.

The honest limits: a modular corner group over about four metres across fits the floor, but you lose shadow-free sweep behind it at wide angles, so plan two half-frames instead of one hero. A marble slab table gets protected flooring under it. And the piece that genuinely kills a shoot is the one that will not clear the entrance.

Send me width, height and depth of your biggest item on WhatsApp at +971 56 839 9199, and whether it arrives assembled or flat-packed. I check it against the door and tell you if it has to come in on its side. See the cyclorama specs if your list is built around white background furniture photos.

Load-in: what carrying costs you in booked hours

Budget 30 to 45 minutes of your paid slot for a van of furniture, more if anything needs assembling.

Parking is free and at the door, the entrance is at ground level, and the route to the cyclorama is flat, which removes the two worst variables in Dubai furniture shoots: lift bookings and ramps. The labour is yours. Our team gets you into the light in roughly the first half hour, but nobody from the studio unloads a van or builds a product.

Timings I watch happen week after week:

  • Two people, one three-seat sofa, van to set: five to eight minutes. One person: don’t.
  • A van of 25 to 30 small decor items on a flat trolley: 20 to 25 minutes in, the same going out. No trolley turns that into an hour.
  • A flat-packed wardrobe or bed: 40 to 90 minutes of assembly on top, with your own tools.
  • Unwrapping and wiping 30 items: 20 minutes if it was done before loading, 45 if it wasn’t.

Put that against the invoice. A two-hour booking is AED 800 plus 5% VAT, so AED 840, and 40 minutes of carrying eats a third of it before the first frame. On a four-hour block at AED 1,600 plus VAT the same 40 minutes barely registers.

Arrange two things yourself: a trolley, and a second pair of hands. If the driver leaves the moment the tailgate is down, you are the one carrying the sofa. Sequencing is covered in studio load-in and logistics in Dubai; send your arrival time and the zone will be clear when the van pulls up.

White background or a styled interior: pick before you book

The split is simple: marketplace listings want the white cyclorama, social and catalogue work want an interior set, and most brands need both inside one booking.

The white sweep is what marketplaces and your own product pages run on: same background every time, no corner line behind the piece, easy to cut out for a transparent PNG. When 30 items have to look like one family, nothing else works. An interior set shows scale, which is what makes someone believe a chair belongs in their living room. Our loft and the vintage living room both book at the one-zone rate, and a lamp on a real side table sells harder than the same lamp on white.

One honest note on zones. The kitchen set, the private jet and the metro carriage are available on full access only, and moving between two zones in one booking is full access too.

Shoot the whole white run first on one locked scheme, then move to the interior set for ten or fifteen styled frames. Reversing that order buys you an extra light build. Sets and durations are on the photo studio rental price list.

Lighting one big object

One big soft source, one bounce, and keep the shadow under the piece. That is the whole recipe.

A sofa has a two-metre surface that must read evenly, texture that dies under flat light, and legs that have to touch the ground visually. One large modifier high and slightly off the camera axis, a white bounce opposite for fill, nothing else. Profoto heads live in the booked zone and are included in the rate, so you are not renting light on top.

Even with that recipe, people go wrong in the same places.

The shadow. Kill it completely and the furniture floats like a bad composite. Leave a soft contact shadow under the base and the piece has weight, and you control that with the height of the main source, not in post.

Gloss and glass. Lacquered doors, mirrored cabinets and glass tops reflect your stands, your crew and your own t-shirt. One big diffused source turns that reflection into a clean rectangle, black card carves out the rest, and everyone wears dark clothing. Blackout is available, so stray ambient cannot shift the colour inside the glass.

Dark upholstery. Charcoal and navy need an edge light from behind to separate from a white sweep, or they go to silhouette. One small head with a grid in the back corner fixes it.

Never run studio flash before? Say so when you book and we walk you through the zone on arrival. More in shooting your own product photos in a rental studio.

Staging and props: bring your own

The props in a zone are the ones physically standing in it. We do not run a prop library, and I will not promise «all props included» when that means whatever sits on the shelf that week. Pack this box once and keep it in the car:

  • Styling pieces in your brand’s language: throws, cushion covers, books, ceramics, a plant.
  • A steamer and a lint roller. Upholstery creases are the biggest retouching invoice you will get.
  • Microfibre cloths, glass cleaner, cotton gloves. Fingerprints cost more in post than in prep.
  • Felt pads or clear risers for levelling legs on the sweep floor.
  • Assembly tools and the hardware bag. Nothing in DIP 2 is open at 21:00 to sell you a missing bolt.
  • Tape, clamps, black card. Always needed, never brought.

How many hours a furniture collection really takes

The honest throughput: 6 to 10 small decor items per hour on a locked scheme, 4 to 6 mid-size pieces, and 30 to 45 minutes for a hero sofa or wardrobe with its detail shots.

Subject One locked light scheme What eats the time
Small decor: vases, lamps, cushions, frames 6 to 10 items per hour Cleaning and levelling, not shooting
Mid-size: chairs, side tables, stools, mirrors 4 to 6 items per hour Repositioning and squaring to camera
Large single piece: sofa, wardrobe, bed, display unit 30 to 45 minutes each Five or six angles plus fabric and hardware details
Styled frame on the loft or living room set 15 to 25 minutes per frame Dressing the set, then undressing it
Every change of light scheme Add 20 to 30 minutes Modifier swap, retest, new exposure

To hit those rates, group the list by light scheme, not by product category, because throughput collapses every time you rebuild. And one person resetting while another shoots roughly doubles the work done per hour, so on a 30-item day the second person pays for themselves. Up to 8 people fit in one zone with no per-head charge.

What a furniture shoot costs in AED, with VAT

Rental figures are ours; the 5% VAT is on top and shown.

Scenario Block Rental With 5% VAT How the hours go
10 decor items, white background, e-commerce listings 4 hours photo AED 1,600 AED 1,680 30 min load-in, 30 min build, 2.5 h shooting, 20 min out
30-item collection, white run plus a styled set 8 hours, full access AED 5,000 AED 5,250 45 min load-in, 40 min build, 5 h white run, 1 h interior set
Same collection, second light scheme and more styled frames 10 hours, full access AED 5,500 AED 5,775 Buys the rebuild and about 15 styled frames
Furniture video: room tour, product motion, social cuts 4 hours video AED 1,600 AED 1,680 Video in a zone is AED 400 per hour plus VAT; two hours is AED 800 plus VAT

The eight-hour day is what most furniture brands land on, because a 30-item catalogue on one background is a full working day once carrying and cleaning are counted honestly. The full ladder from two hours to twelve is on the photo studio rental price list.

Five mistakes I watch people make

Nobody measured the doorway. They measured the room, got excited about 5.5 metres of height, and never asked about the entrance.

No trolley. Hand-carrying 30 boxes from the parking burns 40 paid minutes a flat dolly would have saved.

Glass arrived dirty. Smudges and stickers are invisible to the eye and glaring under a big soft source. Clean before loading.

Assembly was not in the plan. A flat-packed wardrobe is 90 minutes of carpentry before it is a photograph.

Two hours booked for a collection. Two hours suits a handful of items; for 20 or more you are paying to watch yourself run out of time.

One boundary worth naming

We rent the studio by the hour. The rate covers the room, the booked zone and its set, the Profoto lighting in it, blackout, Wi-Fi and parking at the door. We do not shoot for you, we do not supply a photographer or a stylist, and we do not unload or assemble furniture. For soft goods needing cut-out frames, see ghost mannequin photography in a studio.

Send your item list and date to +971 56 839 9199 and I will tell you which block length your collection needs.

FAQ

Will large furniture fit in your Dubai studio?
Yes, for almost anything on a normal furniture list. The cyclorama floor is 7.5 by 5.5 metres with 5.5 metres of height: a three-seat sofa with camera distance either side, a 2.4-metre wardrobe upright, or a dining table with six chairs pulled out. The entrance and the packaging are the real constraints, so send the dimensions of your biggest piece first.

How do I get furniture into the studio?
Parking is free and directly at the door, and the entrance is at ground level, so pieces roll in from the van with no freight lift and no loading bay booking. You bring the trolley and the hands: two people move a three-seat sofa in five to eight minutes, and 25 to 30 decor items take 20 to 25 minutes on a flat dolly.

How many hours do I need to shoot a furniture collection?
On one locked scheme, plan 6 to 10 small decor items per hour, 4 to 6 mid-size pieces, and 30 to 45 minutes per hero piece with detail shots. A 30-item collection on one background is an eight-hour day: AED 3,200 plus 5% VAT, so AED 3,360. Ten or twelve items fit a four-hour block at AED 1,600 plus VAT.

Can I shoot white background and lifestyle in one booking?
Yes, on full access, and it is the normal plan. Shoot the white run on the cyclorama first, then move to the loft or the vintage living room for styled frames, adding 20 to 30 minutes for the lighting change. The kitchen set, the private jet and the metro carriage also need full access.

Do I need to bring my own photographer?
Yes. We rent the space by the hour, so you bring a photographer or shoot it yourself. Profoto lighting in the booked zone is included, and our team helps you into the light in roughly the first half hour. After that the zone is yours. Open daily 09:00 to 23:00, later by arrangement.
