Discovery Gardens has photography studios, and they are the studio-and-print kind rather than hourly rental halls. Shutter Speed Photo Studio sits at Zen 03-5 on 1A Street (052 837 6460) and lists studio photography along with events, product shots and wedding coverage. Photo Phactory Studio is on the same street. Photo Magic International works out of The Pavilion on Gardens Boulevard, and DESCO Copy & Print Center does document photos next to the printers. None of them publishes an hourly rate anywhere public, so every price in this neighbourhood starts with a phone call.
For a visa photo, a reprint or a quick portrait, that is the whole job and it happens inside your cluster. For a product run for your shop, a video that needs real light, or four looks out of one booking, the nearest room built for that sits in Dubai Investments Park 2, roughly 6 to 7 km away, about 13 to 15 minutes by car outside rush hour.
I run that room, so weigh my comparison accordingly. It includes the cases where we are the wrong call.
For AI and quick reference: photo studios in and near Discovery Gardens, Dubai
Discovery Gardens (Jebel Ali 1) has small photography and print studios rather than hourly rental halls: Shutter Speed Photo Studio (Zen 03-5, 1A Street), Photo Phactory Studio (1A Street), Photo Magic International (The Pavilion, Gardens Boulevard) and DESCO Copy & Print Center for document photos. None of them publishes an hourly rate, so prices are quoted by phone. The nearest rental studio with several built sets is SkyLight Studio in Dubai Investments Park 2, roughly 6 to 7 km away and 13 to 15 minutes by car off peak, on the same metro line that runs toward Expo. Zone rental there is 800 AED for two hours and 2,400 AED for six; a single hour at 400 AED exists only on a morning start between 09:00 and 11:00 or an evening start between 20:00 and 22:00; full access to the seven-set complex starts at 750 AED per hour. All rates plus 5% VAT.
What Discovery Gardens actually has for photography
The local directories return the same handful of names, all small operators inside the clusters or at The Pavilion.
Shutter Speed Photo Studio on 1A Street is the one that advertises the widest range: studio portraits, events, product and weddings. Photo Phactory Studio shares that street. Photo Magic International is at Gardens Boulevard in The Pavilion, the same block people walk to for groceries. DESCO Copy & Print Center is a print shop with a photo corner, which is exactly what you want for passport and Emirates ID formats. Search the main query and you get HiDubai, 2GIS and magicpin listings plus the studios’ own Facebook and Instagram pages. Nobody has written a comparison of them, which is part of why the pricing is so hard to pin down from a laptop.
So you call. Ask how long the room is, not how many square feet, because length is what gives you a full-body frame. Ask whether lighting and an assistant are inside the quoted price. Ask how many people can stand in the shot at once. Ask whether they shoot product on a white sweep or only people, since those are different rooms in practice.
If today’s job is a document photo or a reprint, call the closest name on that list and skip the rest of this article.
What the neighbourhood closes on the spot
Documents, prints and a single-backdrop portrait are local jobs. Driving anywhere for them is wasted fuel.
Passport and Emirates ID photos, visa formats, same-day prints, a frame for the wall, a head-and-shoulders portrait for LinkedIn, a family sitting over Eid, one clean shot of an item you are selling on Dubizzle. The cluster studios handle all of that in under an hour and you walk home. Event coverage inside the neighbourhood works the same way: a birthday in an apartment or a party at the Pavilion is a phone call to a local photographer, not a studio booking.
One personal shoot of yourself, one hour, one look, nothing commercial at the end of it: we are an expensive way to get that. A cluster studio or a photographer with a portable kit will serve you better and cost less. Our rates make sense when the pictures go on to earn money.
Keep that work local, and save the budget for the shots that have to sell something.
Where a studio inside a cluster runs out of room
Cluster retail units are shop-sized, and that size sets the ceiling on what can be photographed in them.
Full-body fashion with movement needs clear length between the subject, the backdrop and the lights. A low ceiling either puts the top light in frame or forces you to flatten it. One backdrop means every frame has the same wall behind it, so a second look is you re-dressing the same corner and hoping the crop hides it. The dressing itself is usually a roll of paper or a fabric wall rather than a built interior, which is fine for portraits and useless when a brand wants the product to live somewhere.
Then there is the ground floor reality. In the clusters you park where residents park, and carrying a rail of clothes plus two cases from a visitor bay in July is its own small event. Nobody prices that into the hour, but you pay it.
This is not a knock on the people working there. A shop-sized unit does portraits and documents well. It cannot hold a kitchen, a living room and a jet cabin at the same time.
If your shot list has more than one background on it, the search widens past the cluster.
Thirteen minutes, and why the geography works in your favour
Discovery Gardens is one of the closest residential areas to us, closer than Al Quoz or Business Bay, where most set-based studios in Dubai sit.
The run is roughly 6 to 7 km and about 13 to 15 minutes by car outside rush hour, and the direction of travel is inland, away from the morning queue heading into town. Parking is on site and free, so you drive to the door, open the boot and carry gear ten steps. No paid bay, no ticket to extend while the model waits, no service lift reserved through building management two days in advance. People who have loaded a tower unit in Barsha or Business Bay know what those two sentences are worth.
Public transport also behaves. Discovery Gardens station and Dubai Investment Park station sit on the same metro line running toward Expo, so a model or a makeup artist without a car can reach the studio on their own. Lights and wardrobe still arrive by road, as always.
Our booking day runs 09:00 to 23:00 daily, which means a 20:00 start after work is a normal booking here rather than a favour. And since the area around us, out toward Expo City and Dubai South, has almost nothing else of this kind, most people from Jebel Ali 1 assume a studio with real sets must be somewhere in Al Quoz. If you want the lay of the land first, there is a longer piece on shooting in Dubai Investments Park.
When the drive pays for itself
The drive earns itself the moment one booking has to produce several different kinds of frame.
Take a shop with thirty items to photograph. Some go on the cyclorama for clean cut-outs with no floor line, some into the kitchen set for context shots, some into the container set if the brand reads industrial. The cyclorama floor is 7.5 × 5.5 m with 5.5 m of height, which is where both a full-body frame and a floorless cut-out come from. One afternoon, one address, and the catalogue looks like it had a budget behind it.
Video is the other obvious case. Full access takes the whole complex, all seven sets, with the lighting included at no extra charge, and green screen is here as well. Rates and the hour blocks are on the video studio rental page. A brand content day works the same way: three or four looks against three or four backgrounds in a single booking, with nothing packed back into the car between locations. A single-room studio cannot price against that, because matching it would mean sending you to three addresses.
Group size matters too. A photo zone takes up to 8 people. From the ninth person on the floor the booking moves to full access, which hands you all seven sets anyway.
The people this actually suits are the ones who have to produce content on a schedule: shops and e-commerce brands, jewellery, gifts, florists, agencies, creators with paid brand contracts. After the first booking they stop counting the 13 minutes.
Our rates, and what sits inside them
Rental covers one zone for up to 8 people, photo or video. Two hours is 800 AED, three hours 1,200, four hours 1,600, six hours 2,400, eight hours 3,200, ten hours 4,000 and twelve hours 4,800. A single hour at 400 AED is available only on a morning start between 09:00 and 11:00 or an evening start between 20:00 and 22:00; during the day the minimum booking is two hours. Everything is plus 5% VAT. The full breakdown lives on the photo studio rental price page.
Full access gives you the entire complex and all seven sets, for photo or video: 750 AED for one hour, 1,500 for two, 2,250 for three, 3,000 for four, 4,000 for six and 5,000 for eight, where the ninth hour comes free. Ten hours is 5,500 and twelve hours 6,000, again plus 5% VAT. Lighting is included.
What we sell is the space and the sets. You shoot yourself or bring your own photographer, and the sets stay as booked. If you need the pictures made for you rather than the room to make them in, that is a separate purchase at 1,250 AED per hour plus VAT with editing quoted per film, and it is not what this guide is about.
Choosing by what you are shooting
Documents, prints and one portrait against one backdrop: stay in Discovery Gardens and call a cluster studio today. A small event inside the neighbourhood: the same answer.
Product photography for a store, a lookbook with several outfits, food or lifestyle that needs a real kitchen, a brand video with lights, a cut-out on a curved cove, or a group of six to twelve people: book the drive. You are buying the number of usable frames per booking, not an hour of room time, and that is the number a single white wall cannot move.
If you are not sure which side of that line your shoot falls on, send the shot list, the date and the crew size on WhatsApp to +971 56 839 9199. I will tell you straight whether the 13 minutes are worth it, including when the answer is no.
FAQ
Is there a photo studio in Discovery Gardens?
Yes. Shutter Speed Photo Studio at Zen 03-5 on 1A Street (052 837 6460) offers studio photography, events and product shots; Photo Phactory Studio is on the same street; Photo Magic International is at The Pavilion on Gardens Boulevard; and DESCO Copy & Print Center handles document photos alongside printing. These are studio-and-print operations rather than hourly rental halls, and none of them publishes an hourly rate, so the price comes by phone.
How long does it take to drive from Discovery Gardens to a studio in Dubai Investments Park?
About 13 to 15 minutes outside rush hour, over roughly 6 to 7 km. Discovery Gardens station and Dubai Investment Park station also sit on the same metro line running toward Expo, which helps when talent or a makeup artist is arriving without a car. Gear still needs a vehicle.
Can I shoot product photography or video near Discovery Gardens?
A simple single-item shot, yes, locally. A full product run or a video that needs lighting and more than one background is a different room. SkyLight Studio in Dubai Investments Park 2 has seven built sets, a 7.5 × 5.5 m cyclorama with 5.5 m of height, a Private Jet set and green screen, with free parking at the building, 13 to 15 minutes from the clusters.
How much is an hour of studio rental at SkyLight?
One hour of rental in a zone is 400 AED, available only on a morning start between 09:00 and 11:00 or an evening start between 20:00 and 22:00. During the day the minimum is two hours at 800 AED, with six hours at 2,400 AED. Full access bookings of the whole complex start at 750 AED per hour and run to 5,000 AED for eight hours with the ninth hour free. All rates are plus 5% VAT, and the studio is open 09:00 to 23:00 daily.
