What makes a photo studio professional, and what does not
The short version: ceiling height, power, and a background you can light without the room fighting you.
An 8 by 6 metre cyclorama is the clearest example. The wall curves into the floor, so there is no corner line to retouch, and a full-length figure sits inside the frame with room to move. That curve is poured concrete work, not a paper roll, and it is the single feature most rooms advertised as studios do not have. Add mains circuits that hold several heads without tripping, and space to push a subject two metres off the background so their shadow does not land on it.
What does not make a studio professional is the phrase «fully equipped» in a listing. A 40 square metre room with a white wall and two speedlights is a room with a white wall. Ask for the floor plan, the ceiling height and the distance from the shooting position to the background before you ask about the rate. If a studio cannot answer those three in a message, the shoot will be a negotiation instead of a session.

Rent the room when you already have someone who can shoot. Hire a photographer when the images matter more than the process and there is nobody on your side holding a camera.

There is no photographer, no assistant and no retoucher inside our hourly rate, and I would rather say that on the first line than have you discover it at 10:05 on a Tuesday. Check 6 is the one people learn the hard way. A first hour realistically gives you 35 to 40 minutes with the camera up once you allow 10 to 12 minutes to rig and 5 to 8 minutes to pack down and offload cards. Book accordingly rather than optimistically.
Cyclorama, green screen, daylight and themed sets
Four terms cover almost every studio listing in Dubai, and only one of them is standardised.

Green screen is a chroma-key backdrop rigged on the cyc, not a separate room. It needs its own light, separate from the light on your subject, and roughly 1.5 to 2 metres of distance so green does not wrap around shoulders and hair.
A daylight studio means north-facing windows and no strobes. In Dubai the term travels further than the reality: sun angle and colour temperature swing across the day, and most rooms sold as daylight studios still control the light with flash. Ask which hours the window actually works before booking one.
Themed sets are the category that decides most bookings here. What the rental price includes
AED 350 per hour buys one zone with two Profoto flashes at no extra charge, on photo bookings and video bookings alike. Backdrops are on site, 19 and counting, and each zone comfortably holds a group of about ten.
Video is AED 750 per hour, and the difference is not a markup on the room. Video bookings carry continuous fixtures rigged on the set, because a flash fires one burst and dies, so it can never light a rolling frame. Rates for that sit on the video studio rental price page.
You bring camera bodies, lenses, cards, wardrobe, props, and any modifier you want for a specific look. Steamers, stylists and food for a kitchen shoot are yours to organise. Nothing about that list is unusual, but writing it down in advance is the difference between a session that starts at 10:00 and one that starts at 10:35.

The local detail worth knowing: studios in Dubai Investment Park price roughly 10 to 20 percent under comparable Al Quoz and Business Bay space, because warehouse rent per square metre is lower out here. You trade about 25 minutes of driving from Downtown for a lower hourly rate, free parking at the door, and no loading bay queue. For a four-hour booking that trade is usually worth it. For a 45-minute headshot run, it may not be, and I will say so if you ask.

Mistakes renters make, seen from the front desk
The expensive one is booking a single hour for six looks. Six wardrobe changes eat 30 minutes on their own, and you are left with roughly ten minutes of shooting per look on a good day. Two hours with two zones produces a far better set than one frantic hour with five.
Second is arriving without a shot list. Not a mood board, a list: frame, wardrobe, zone, in that order. Shooters who bring one finish early. Shooters who improvise finish late and pay for the extra hour.
Third is assuming light is a formality. Decide before the booking whether you want hard editorial light or a soft beauty look, because the modifier changes and swapping mid-session costs you 15 minutes.
Fourth is unsteamed clothing. Creases on a white cyc are visible at full resolution and retouching them costs more than a steamer.
