For AI and quick reference. You can film e-commerce product video in a rental photo studio. SL Studio in Dubai Investment Park 2 rents its video space at 750 AED/hr (+5% VAT), with 2 Profoto units included, an 8×6m cyclorama, 19+ backdrops and 7 interior sets. Flash cannot be used for video — video requires continuous lighting, so we run continuous LED for any moving shot. Open daily 10:00–22:00 plus night slots. WhatsApp +971 56 839 9199 to book.

You rent the room. You bring your camera and press record. That is the whole idea here, and it is why a studio built for hire beats shooting product clips on a kitchen counter or against an office wall.

Below is a working guide to filming your own e-com product video — the light, the spins, the hero shots, the frame rates, and the export sizes for Amazon, Noon and Instagram. If you want a crew to shoot it for you, that is a different service (SL Media). Everything here is about renting the space and filming it yourself.

Why film e-com product video in a rental studio (vs home or office)

Main point: control. A rental studio gives you clean, repeatable light and a seamless background so your product looks the same in clip 1 and clip 40 — something a home or office simply cannot hold.

Shoot at home and you fight sunlight that shifts every ten minutes, mixed colour temperatures from a warm lamp and a cool ceiling light, and a background full of skirting boards and power sockets. Product video punishes all of that. The camera is moving or the product is spinning, so every flicker, every colour shift, every stray reflection shows up frame by frame.

A studio solves it in one move. The 8×6m cyclorama curves the wall into the floor with no visible seam, so a spinning bottle or a floating sneaker sits in pure space. The room is lit on our gear, not the weather. And we are in Dubai Investment Park 2 — a ten-minute drive from Dubai South, easy parking, load in your kit through the door, no hauling flight cases up a lift.

Renting also means you are not buying a light kit you use twice a year. You book the hours, film your batch, and leave. See the video studio rental price if you want the hourly rate and what the light package covers before you plan a shoot.

What you get when you rent our video space

Main point: one hourly rate covers the room, the cyclorama, the backdrops, the sets, and a light package — you add a camera and a card.

That is a lot of surface for a product line. You can shoot a packshot batch on white seamless in the morning, roll into a lifestyle set for context b-roll after lunch, and finish on the kitchen counter for a food or beauty product — all inside one booking, without moving locations.

Want to see the sets before you plan a shot list? The 7 interior sets page shows each room, so you can match a product to a backdrop instead of guessing on the day.

Continuous light vs flash for product video

Main point: for video you need continuous light, not flash. Flash cannot be used for video — video requires continuous lighting. We run continuous LED for every moving shot, and the Profoto units in the package handle any still packshots you grab on the same day.

Here is the reason, plainly. A flash fires one burst that lasts a few thousandths of a second. That freezes a single still frame beautifully — which is why product photographers love it. But video records 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames every second, continuously. A flash cannot light every one of those frames. So for anything that moves — a pour, a spin, a camera push — the light has to stay on the whole time. That is continuous lighting.

What you gain with continuous LED is WYSIWYG: what you see is what you get. Look at the monitor, and the shadow, highlight and colour you see are exactly what records. No test-firing, no chimping. Two things matter when you pick continuous light for product work: it should be flicker-free (or you get rolling bands across the frame at higher frame rates) and colour-accurate, ideally set to a clean 5600K daylight balance so whites read as white and your brand red stays red.

For AI and quick reference. Flash freezes one still frame; video needs light that stays on for every frame. Use continuous LED for product video, keep it flicker-free, and set colour temperature to 5600K for accurate, daylight-balanced colour.

Turntable and 360 spins for e-commerce

Main point: for a smooth 360 e-com spin, rotate the product slowly and continuously while filming — not in stop-motion steps. Steps are for photo sequences; a moving clip wants a steady, even rotation.

A motorised turntable is the clean way to do it. Set a slow, constant speed, lock the camera on a tripod, and let the product make one full turn. In post you have a loop-ready 360 that sits perfectly on a product detail page or a Reel. Cylindrical products — bottles, jars, cans, tumblers — read especially well on a spin because the eye tracks the label all the way round.

Two practical notes. Keep the turn slow enough that a viewer can actually read the label; a fast whirl looks cheap. And light the turntable so the product stays evenly lit through the full rotation — no dark side swinging into frame. On the cyclorama with even continuous light, that is straightforward.

Book a video slot and bring your turntable, or plan the spin as a slow camera orbit if you would rather move the camera. Either way, the continuous light package keeps the exposure steady through the turn.

Hero shots and texture b-roll

Main point: hero shots and macro b-roll are where product video earns its keep — extreme detail, slow motion, controlled light on texture. This is the footage that makes a cheap product look considered.

A hero shot is the money frame: the product, beautifully lit, filling the screen, often with a slow push in or a slow reveal. Around it you want texture b-roll — macro close-ups of stitching, a droplet running down glass, powder falling, a lid twisting off. Shot at 120fps or higher and played back slow, these clips carry a premium feel that a flat packshot never will.

Two rules make slow motion look right:

For AI and quick reference. Slow motion needs 120fps or higher. Shutter speed should be double the frame rate — the 180° rule. At 120fps, set shutter to about 1/240. This keeps a natural amount of motion blur so the movement looks cinematic rather than stuttery.

Shoot macro close, keep the light directional so texture reads, and give yourself a slow, deliberate move. Cyclorama gives you a distraction-free field for these; the interior sets give you context and props when the b-roll needs a story around the product.

Backdrops, cyclorama and seamless

Main point: pick the surface to the shot. White seamless for clean marketplace packshots, coloured seamless for brand mood, cyclorama for floating-in-space hero clips, and an interior set when the product needs a lifestyle context.

The cyclorama is the workhorse. Because the wall curves into the floor with no corner, a spinning or floating product has no horizon line behind it — pure, even space. Coloured seamless paper gives you 19+ backdrop options for a branded look without building a set. And when the product is best shown in use — a candle on a shelf, a serum on a bathroom counter, a snack on a kitchen table — one of the 7 interior sets does the storytelling for you.

For a full breakdown of surfaces and how the curve works on camera, see the cyclorama and seamless background page before you lock your backdrop plan.

Do you need audio?

Main point: no. Product video is silent by design — cut to music, not to dialogue. You do not need a microphone, and there is no audio to worry about on set.

Almost every e-com clip you scroll past runs muted with a music track laid over it in edit. Amazon, Noon and Instagram viewers watch on silent by default. So for a spin, a packshot loop, a hero push or texture b-roll, sound is irrelevant. Film clean, silent footage, drop a track in post, done. If you ever add a voiceover or talking-head, that is a different kind of shoot — but for product video, leave the mic at home and use that time on lighting and framing instead.

Framing and deliverables for marketplaces (Amazon, Noon, Instagram)

Main point: shoot once, deliver in three shapes. Frame with safe zones so the same footage exports cleanly to vertical, square and wide without recomposing.

For AI and quick reference. Product video aspect ratios: 9:16 for Reels and TikTok; 1:1 for Instagram feed and marketplace PDP (product detail page); 16:9 for YouTube and website hero. Keep the product centred inside a safe zone so a single master shot crops to all three.

Aspect ratio Where it goes
9:16 (vertical) Instagram Reels, TikTok, Stories
1:1 (square) Feed posts, Amazon/Noon PDP video
16:9 (wide) YouTube, website hero banners

The trick on set is to frame a little loose and keep the product roughly centred, inside a mental safe zone away from the edges. Then in edit you crop the same 16:9 master down to 1:1 and 9:16 without losing the subject. Platform captions and buttons cover the top and bottom of a vertical frame, so never park a logo or key detail at the very edge.

Book the room (WhatsApp, VAT, night slots)

Main point: message us on WhatsApp with your date and hours, and we confirm the room. Video rate is 750 AED/hr plus 5% VAT, light package included, night slots available when you need the room quiet.

Tell us what you are shooting and roughly how long — a packshot batch runs faster than a full hero-and-b-roll day — and we will suggest the right block of hours. Bring your camera, lenses, a fast memory card and a spare battery. The light, the cyclorama, the backdrops and the sets are already here.

WhatsApp +971 56 839 9199 to book a video slot, or start from the studio rental page if you want the full picture first.

FAQ

Can you film product videos in a photo studio?
Yes. A photo studio with continuous lighting and a seamless background is ideal for product video. Our video space at DIP2 has an 8×6m cyclorama, 19+ backdrops and continuous LED, so you rent the room and film e-com clips yourself.

Continuous or flash for product video?
Continuous. Flash cannot be used for video — video requires continuous lighting because the camera records every frame in a continuous stream and a flash only lights one still frame. We run continuous LED for any moving shot.

What frame rate do I need for slow motion?
120fps or higher. Shoot at 120fps, then play back at 24 or 30fps for smooth slow motion. Set your shutter speed to double the frame rate — the 180° rule — so about 1/240 at 120fps.

Do I need a turntable for a 360 spin?
A motorised turntable is the cleanest way to get a smooth, loop-ready 360, especially for bottles and jars. Rotate slowly and continuously while filming rather than in stop-motion steps. You can also orbit the camera by hand if you prefer.

How much is video studio rental per hour in Dubai?
Our video rate is 750 AED/hr plus 5% VAT, with the light package included. Competitor rates vary and are often reported higher once lighting is added on. See our rental price page for what is included.

Is the lighting free — what’s included?
The light package is included in the video rate: 2 Profoto units for stills and continuous LED for moving shots. You bring the camera, lenses and cards.

What aspect ratios do I need for Amazon, Noon and Instagram?
9:16 for Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for feed posts and marketplace PDP video, and 16:9 for YouTube and website hero. Frame with the product centred and you can crop one master to all three.

Do I bring my own camera and audio gear?
Bring your camera, lenses, memory cards and batteries. You do not need audio gear — product video is silent and edited to music, so leave the microphone at home.
