The single fact that saves renters the most money: your setup and teardown happen inside your booked slot. If you book two hours and spend the first thirty minutes building a background and rigging light, you have ninety minutes to actually shoot. Nobody hands you free build time. Plan the clock around that and most of the other rules take care of themselves.
Everything below comes from watching thousands of self-service bookings since 2020, across our seven zones in Dubai Investment Park 2. This is a rental studio: you rent the room and run your own shoot. We do not shoot for you and we do not send a crew. That model is cheaper and more flexible for people who know what they want, and it comes with a short list of responsibilities.

How much of my slot is setup and teardown?
All of it that you spend building or breaking down. The studio clock starts at your booking time and stops at the end, whether the camera is rolling or you are still taping down a backdrop.
This trips up more first-timers than anything else. A clean single-look portrait session needs maybe ten minutes to place light and a stand. A layered fashion set with a colour change, a fog machine, and three modifiers can eat forty-five before the first frame. If you show up expecting to shoot the full two hours you paid for, and you spend half of it rigging, that is on the plan, not the studio.
The fix is simple: pad your booking. Add setup and teardown to your shooting estimate, then round up. Here is roughly how it breaks down by shoot type.

Can I bring assistants, models, and guests?
Yes, up to 10 people per zone. That number is a comfort and safety ceiling, not a suggestion. Past ten, a zone gets crowded, gear starts getting bumped, and everyone’s shoot slows down.
Count everyone: photographer, assistant, models, a stylist, a makeup artist, the friend who came to hold coffee. If your production genuinely needs more bodies, message us on WhatsApp before you book so we can talk through the zone and timing. What you should not do is show up with fifteen people and expect it to work. It won’t, and it is not fair to whoever booked the next slot.
One quiet rule that keeps everyone happy: guests are guests, not a second crew running around a shared space. Keep bags in one corner, keep the walkways clear, and keep an eye on kids if they are with you. Common sense, mostly.
Who cleans up, and what am I responsible for?
You leave the zone the way you found it. We handle the deep reset between bookings, sweeping, resetting props, checking gear. You handle your own mess: your coffee cups, your gaffer tape, your confetti, your spilled anything.

The messy-shoot rule matters most here. Glitter, coloured powder (Holi-style), body oil, paint, water, food that stains: these are doable, but tell us in advance. Some of it needs a specific zone, extra covering, or a longer changeover after you leave. Springing a powder shoot on a white cyclorama with no warning is how a booking goes sideways. Ask first and we will make it work.
What happens if I damage the equipment or a backdrop?
Report it immediately, that is the most important part. Normal wear is on us. Damage beyond normal wear, a snapped light stand, a torn backdrop, a cracked modifier, a burn, is the renter’s responsibility. That is standard across the industry, and it is written into how rental studios operate everywhere, not just here.
The reason to report on the spot rather than slip out quietly is practical. If a light took a knock, the next renter needs a working light. If a backdrop got marked, we need to clean or swap it before someone else shoots against it. A problem told immediately is a small problem. A problem discovered later, after you are gone, turns into a dispute nobody enjoys.
Handle Profoto heads and stands like they are expensive, because they are. Do not overload a stand, do not leave cables across a walkway, and do not move a rigged setup by yourself if it feels heavy. If you are unsure how something works, ask before you force it.

How do cancellations and reschedules actually work?
Message us as early as you can and be honest about it. Most rental studios in Dubai work on a deposit and a cancellation window, and terms vary by studio, so read whatever you agree to at booking. Across the market, later cancellations are commonly non-refundable while earlier ones can often be moved or refunded. The specifics are what you confirm with us on WhatsApp, not something to guess from a blog.
The practical advice is the same everywhere: a reschedule is almost always easier to arrange than a refund, and both are far easier with notice. A same-day «we’re not coming» leaves a slot nobody else can fill. Weekends and evening slots book out fastest, so if your plans are shaky, tell us early and we will find another window rather than lose your booking outright.
Food, drinks, shoes, and wet or messy shoots
Water and coffee are fine, just keep them off the backdrops and away from cabling. Full food shoots and lifestyle sets with real food are welcome, our kitchen set exists for exactly that, but treat stains and crumbs as your cleanup and flag anything that could mark a surface.
Shoes on the cyclorama is the one people forget. The infinity cyc and any paper or clean-white background stay clean because we ask people to keep street shoes off them. Socks, clean shoe covers, or bare feet on the white. If your look needs boots on a clean backdrop, tell us so we can prep the right surface. On the loft, container, kitchen, and jet sets, normal shoes are usually fine.
Wet shoots, water splashes, ice, anything that pools, need a heads-up and the right zone. Tell us first, so nobody slips and no electrical gear ends up near standing water.
What gear and props can I bring?
Bring whatever your shoot needs, within reason and within the 10-person, one-zone footprint. Your own camera, lenses, laptop, tether, wardrobe, furniture, product, small set pieces: all normal. Plenty of renters bring a full prop kit and build a look we have never seen, which is half the fun of a self-service space.
A few sensible limits. Nothing that damages walls, floors, or our sets, so no drilling, no permanent adhesive, no open flame without asking. Large furniture or heavy builds, clear them first so we know they fit the zone and the doors. Fog and haze are usually fine but tell us, because they linger into the next booking if we do not plan the changeover.

How does overtime work if we run long?
Book it in advance whenever you can, and understand it depends on the next slot being open. If the zone is free after you, extending is usually straightforward. If someone is booked right behind you, we cannot push them, so you finish on time.
This is the honest limitation of a busy studio. There is no guaranteed «just add an hour» button at the end of your session, because the calendar decides, not goodwill. So the moment you sense you are running long, message us and ask. If we can extend, we will quote the extra time at the standard rate. The better move is to over-book slightly from the start. Paying for a buffer hour you might not fully use costs less stress than scrambling for time you cannot get. Renters who plan generous slots almost never feel rushed, and their images show it.
